NEW YORK — September 16, 2025 — At its biennial General Assembly and Leadership Forum in New York City, the International Security Ligue presented a $25,000 donation to New York Cares, reinforcing its commitment to community resilience and social impact.

Armin Berchtold, Secretary General of the Ligue, presented the gift during the opening session, noting that “security is about more than just creating a safe environment—it’s about empowering communities to thrive. Our partnership with New York Cares will help deliver critical services to New Yorkers in need and help drive positive change.”

Security is about more than just creating a safe environment—it’s about empowering communities to thrive.

New York Cares is the city’s largest volunteer network, and since 1987 it has engaged over 800,000 volunteers in more than 20,000 service projects. New York Cares partners with more than 500 non-governmental organizations to provide an avenue for people wanting to make a positive difference.

“Thank you so much for your incredible support,” said Sapreet K. Saluja, Executive Director of New York Cares, who accepted the donation at the Ligue event from Ligue Chairman Magnus Ahlqvist. “Volunteerism can positively impact the fabric of communities, and your generous donation will help us do that.“

Among other initiatives, New York Cares will allocate the Ligue donation to its ‘Stand with Students’ effort to bolster programs in under-resourced public schools. It includes training for volunteer tutors and weekly individualized instruction for children with the highest needs and in areas most impacted by budget cuts.

In selecting New York Cares, Ligue leadership noted that the charity develops programs that stem directly from needs in the community, a mission that resonates with Ligue. Through their everyday work, frontline private security professionals promote safe environments that underpin the ability of communities to prosper.

The donation is in keeping with the International Security Ligue’s tradition of honoring a host-city organization doing critical charity work.

Urs Alig, CEO at Securitas AG, provided an update on the donation made at the Ligue’s 2023 General Assembly in Zurich to the Swiss Red Cross, Switzerland’s oldest humanitarian organization, with 53,000 volunteers and four rescue organizations. The Ligue’s donation helped the Swiss Red Cross across multiple projects, from responding to crises in Ukraine, Syria, Morocco and Sudan to driving elderly and sick people to medical appointments.

At its previous General Assembly, in Sintra, Portugal, the Ligue’s made its gift to the Portuguese Association for Victim Support, which provides an integrated support system for victims of crime.
